I can't believe my first week at Hatch is already over! I thought six weeks would be a long time, but now that there's only five left it feels like it's going to fly by.
Brad took us up to the 'archives' this week, which is actually just a bunch of boxes stacked on the floor. Someone needs to buy these people some shelves!
One of the old things is Huey, who I'm kind of in love with. He's super fat, and super lovable. Also, he needs to be brushed. He was hanging out with Laura at the back computer while she was typesetting a poster.
One of the projects we (the interns) will be working on in the next week is restrikes of five different posters for the Ryman. We split off in two groups, and Annie and Carter are working on this re-strike of Carrie Underwood.
Though this isn't how the poster is supposed to be printed, Brad was doing a test to see the ink levels, and he flipped the paper around to conserve it. It just so happened to be set in the press perfectly symmetrical! A Carrie Underwood playing card, perhaps?
On Thursdays, Dan comes in to run the Mealy, a gigantic press in the back that only he knows how to operate. They use it for runs over 1000, because once it's set-up it's completely automated. He was printing Neil Young posters for the upcoming show at the Ryman.
On Friday, Dan was still printing, and a photographer named Leslee Mitchell came in to shoot him on the press. This is one of the shots she took, they're all absolutely gorgeous! See the rest of her photos here.
